The Nomen – a Glossary

When doing work related to meaning, you have to be very careful about word choices and when they are used. It is important to be precise & consistent, especially when communicating to interested readers and Data Science professionals.

This is the reason why tag is used one way and links category another.

Tags

Tag

A word or phrase, usually a name, supplied by content authors. These are intended to be meaningful words you find in the content, but in WordPress and other CMS platforms, you can add anything you want on a page you are editing.

Tag is an essential name, used to talk about abstract concepts as well as phrases assigned to documents.

Category or Link

A Category is a member of a tree. They can be traditional, made by a Website author or assembled from tags by an algorithm.

Sometimes they mabe be called links, when related to them as a something to be clicked.

Node

A Node is the raw data representing what later becomes a Category or link after rendering.

Nodes are numeric, term ids taken directly from the WordPress database. Each tag & each traditional category has a unique ID. We use numeric IDs when crunching the content, they are easy to compare than text. Also, a number ID never changes, while labels, the names absolutely can be changed by content authors. Finally, labels & names can have dangerous characters in them, while a number is just a number.

Another use for node may come about when we craft algorithms that emulate a neural network.

Root

A Root is the first category in a tree. Often the root determines what posts are linked to a tree.

For Athena Trees, a Flavor forms the trees root. Since its posts are all you will find int he tree, it makes the tree take on a flavor.

Meme

Here, a Meme is a tag representing an important concept. Each tag in an essence is a Meme, and is signified by having the has-mark ‘#’ in front.

Essence

An Essence is a set of tags that represent things like the Website, a Tree, Branch, Category, or Image, taken from the most popular tags of the collection of posts.

Flavor

Athena trees are built from a set of tag lists, each headed by a leading tag, with the rest being tags that appear in 2 or more posts with that leading tag, like a Headliner & her duets. This list of Headliners is compared to the current essence. If a tag is an essence, it has powerful meaning, so it becomes a flavor.

A Flavor is a special tag that becomes the root of a tree, its attached posts the posts for the entire tree. So, each tree has a Flavor.

This also makes each tree a Learning Tree, or as we call them: Lexus.

Branches

A branch is a set of related nodes/categories in a tree. When we generate trees, we really generate branches and combine them into trees.

Branches are Meaningful. Each category sets the context of the next category. Branches have IDs. Branches may have economic value. Branches may have their own Essences. Branches belong to trees, but may also belong to Essences. They are incredibly important to our technology.

Pathways

A Pathway is an alternate name for a branch in an Athena tree.

It suggests a loose hierarchy, enough to create a sequence. It had ben selected to best express how you see branches in Learning Trees.

Pathways are an important word in Organic Learning

Context

Ironically, for a word so important to meaning, Context is amazingly ambiguous & slippery. We had to write multiple articles to describe it. We will keep this short… In Simili MemeWeb, ccontext refers to:

  • Tag blusters shared by multiple posts
  • the tree family, scope of a tree
  • the underlying topic of what we talk about

A context is also any object that classifies things, like Essences, Categories, Tags, Flavors.

The important thing to remember, we use Context in a meaningful & pragmatic way. Do not be intimidated by the word.

Taxonomy

Taxonomy is a fancy word worth lots of points in the game Scrabble. In Simili MemeWeb context, it refers to WOrdPress or CMS-based classifiers. created by content authors. Tag data is kept in the WordPress database post_tag, most websites will involve a category tree Category. Sites with e-commerce typically have a database table for product tags & categories.

We do not use the term much, since we decided it refers to WordPress infrastructure, but we do need to say somethinga bout it.

Tree

This is what we are about. In Simili MemeWeb, we employ traditional or generated sets of branches containing hierarchical categories.

Trees are superior to keyword boxes but pose innumerable challenges & roadblocks to using them. We came up with a technology that solves those problems.

Posts, Articles, Excerpts & Apples

Posts are articles, written by content authors. Our browse space shows Trees & posts found in a selected category, called Excerpts or Apples. Apples are an internal product name & may be submitted to the Data Science community as a formal concept.

We intend to make Apples available to the Web as RDF objects, including the now classic protocol in our technology, along with their tree.

Named Features

Athena

Our first Learning Tree, built from tag pairs that occur in multiple posts. It is first-of-its-kind & a prototype used for this demo.

Aurelius & Odyssey

2nd generation trees, in early development.

ASTRA

The Advanced Semantic Tree Retrieval Agent, an interface written in the jQuery scripting language as part of the WordPress Plugin. It lets readers select trees, flavors, categories, read excerpts and click on links to full articles.

MemeWeb

The name of the technology.

Terra Cognos

A Standalone version of the Plugin & the ASTRA interface. It will be similar to a Search Engine, focusing more on learning & discovery. It will need to be backed by a robust cloud-based infrastructure, possibly involving Blockchain & disigtal currency.

Academia Humanitas

A sketchy concept at this writing. If we can involve 10 million websites, we may have the beginning of a Lexicon collection to cover a Community College course. After 1 billion, wed’ ahve enough embedded knowledge to match wwhat you would learn in a Unvierstiry Degree program.

An even sketchier idea is to create an immersive Role-playing game where Knowledge is converted to spells & weapons, and tresure. The Blind Guy got the crazy idea that people can role-play their way to a degree, or mastery of knowledge.

The Registry

As of Demo3, this is a set of data containing meta-information about Essences, Trees, Branches, Nodes. From the onset, they are designed to act as the database for MemeWeb, including source, the authors The big idea to treat content, context, data as Intellectual Property, co-owned by MemeWeb & authors, stakeholders.

This brings MemeWeb into legality, including ownership, royalty, copyright, trademark & NFTs.

The Hive & the Swarm

As their names suggest, the Hive is a central processing cloud where content is crunched & context structures created. It will be hihgly secure, with limited access and serve the Swarm.

The Swarm may be a BlockChain net run off digital currency. With Proof-of-Stake, Staking, Master nodes. THe Swarm will contain sharded pieces of the Lexicon produced by the Hive, and this is where most public interactions happen.

The Authority

A proposed NGO based in a neutral country as its own sovereign governing body. It will run MemeWeb – Library – free University, manage the digital currency, enforce rights & rules, allocate revenue, pay expenses, expand technology & protect the integrity of the data and preserve access.

The Ecosystem

A Community servicing, feeding & extending MemeWeb, for-profit, non-profit, individuals, NGOs. For pursuit of wealth, generation of wealth & valuation of knowledge. This would run Role-Playing Games, Casinos, any tech that merges knowledge with fun
