WordPress has excellent SEO tools, and they do get you to focus on your phrasing, branding & content. This is good for meaning, but does little to get people to your website. Since so many other millions use SEO tools as well, you gain little leverage from it. Also, you have a much harder time getting search visitors to do anything with your site, most get a bit of info you have and then move on.
It’s better to build your own community, starting with people you know. Even better, people who share a similar viewpoint and interest. That’s no guarantee though, your friends will look at your site to be nice and so you will stop bugging them, but getting them to be passionate about your site is a long jump. But some may spread the word and you will have your first conversion.
It takes steadywork & engagement to build your community, but it is deeply rewarding to have your website be a center of a community, and to build relationships, friendships with people across the globe.
If you have a few people reading your blogs, commenting, buying stuff & even going to events, that is great. Money-wise, it is not enough for you to retire on. But keep growing your community and in 5 years, who knows?
